Walden Taps Writer For Rex Libris

Walden Media has hired screenwriter Ben Zazove to adapt Rex Libris, the sci-fi humor comic by James Turner, Variety reports. The company acquired the rights to the property in July.

Debuting in 2005 from SLG Publishing, the series chronicles the adventures of Rex Libris, the head librarian of the Middleton Public Library who is, unbeknown to the public, actually 1,000 years old and served as the original librarian of the Library of Alexandria. With the help of an ancient Egyptian god who lives beneath the library branch, Rex travels to the far reaches of the universe, collecting late fees and battling ignorance.

The project previously had been in development at Warner Bros., with Mosaic Media producing.

Walden, the family-oriented production company behind The Chronicles of Narnia, just released Journey 2: The Mysterious Island through Warner Bros.
