Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Letitia Wright walked back recent comments she made indicating another sequel was already in the works.

"What I tried to say, maybe I didn't do it clearly enough, to clarify, there is always the hope that you would have another film, especially in a franchise," she said to BuzzFeed during a red carpet interview. "If there is to be another film, which I hope there will be, I think there will be; it takes time to make it; you have to go through the script process. Ryan needs rest to think of what to put together for the next one which, he's a genius but geniuses also need rest and food. But in the meantime, I'm gonna be getting ready and try to put some different work out there before that time is ready."

In January, Wright stated that Black Panther 3 was "already in the works" during a similar interview. "I think it's already in the works," she said. "You know, we just had a terrific two years of just bringing it out and everybody coming together to support it. We need a little bit of a break, we need to regroup, and [director] Ryan [Coogler] needs to get back into the lab, so it's going to take a while, but really excited for you guys to see that." At the time of writing, Marvel Studios has not confirmed that Black Panther 3 is happening.

Is There Potential For a Black Panther Threequel?

In November 2022, executive producer Nate Moore said that while there had been discussions of a Black Panther threequel, the decision would wait until they saw the audience's reception. "There are certainly ideas we've floated around of what a third film could be if we get to make it," he said. "But until the movie comes out, we're a bit superstitious in that way. We don't want to count our chickens, because you never know what's going to happen."

Wakanda Forever serves as a sequel to 2018's Black Panther, which starred the late Chadwick Boseman as King T'Challa/Black Panther. The movie's plot was restructured following Boseman's death in 2020. Wakanda Forever introduced Tenoch Huerta as the film's villain, Namor the Sub-Mariner, and Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart. It also marked Wright's debut as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Black Panther. Wright has portrayed Shuri, the younger sister of Boseman's King T'Challa/Black Panther, in the MCU since 2018.

Other cast members who returned for Wakanda Forever were Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda, Winston Duke as M'Baku and Martin Freeman as Everett Ross. The film also stars Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena and Alex Livanalli. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now available to stream on Disney+.
