The following article contains spoilers from Black Panther #15, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

With Black Panther now exiled from his country, Wakanda has the chance to build a new future free from the mistakes of the monarchy. However, the ending of Black Panther #15 (by John Ridley, German Peralta, Jesus Aburtov, and VC's Joe Sabino) seems to indicate that Wakanda's current leader, its first democratically elected one no less, is making the same mistake that ruined T'Challa's life. This is a great irony considering she is one of his biggest critics.

Prior to T'Challa's formal departure from the country, Folasade, Wakanda's prime minister, approached Omolola, one of T'Challa's sleeper agents. She asked the former assassin to be her secret weapon, needing someone she could utilize against the enemies of Wakanda. Her desire to have an agent to operate in secret against Wakanda's potential enemies not only proves that Folasade is a hypocrite, but that she will likely face the same problems T'Challa did as she adjusts to leadership.

Folasade Is Acting Like T'Challa

As the first democratically elected leader of Wakanda, Folasade represents the hope for a better future. She is very effective at her job, earning the respect and trust of her people. It was her intervention that convinced the citizens of Wakanda to rise against an attempted coup by the country's secret police. This indirectly led to the introduction of Tosin, Wakanda's newest mystical hero. So, needless to say, Folasade could be the leader that her people desperately need now that the king is dethroned.

However, her decision here is questionable at best. Even Omolola notes that Folasade's attitude heavily mirrors T'Challa's. However, neither of them pursues this issue further, either because the implication made them uncomfortable, or because they were beginning to realize that perhaps T'Challa is right to do what he did. The great irony though is that what Folasade wants now is exactly what turned her against him in the first place, just to a lesser degree.

Folasade Makes the Same Mistake As T'Challa

T'Challa made a critical mistake when he organized a network of sleeper agents to destroy world governments should they ever threaten Wakanda. However, these same agents went rogue and nearly brought the world to its knees. The revelation of this stripped T'Challa of all trust and credibility in the eyes of the world, especially in his own country. Now though, Folasade wants her own sleeper agents for what are essentially the same reasons.

She wants a weapon to use against the potential enemies of Wakanda, be they other countries, their newest "ally" Namor, or even T'Challa should he seek to reclaim the throne for some reason. By asking this of Omolola, Folasade proves that she is a hypocrite, as she happily condemned T'Challa for making such a decision, yet when push came to shove she immediately opted for the same thing. While her actions aren't nearly on the same scale as her predecessor, her duplicity in this will undoubtedly come back to haunt her when she faces the challenges of being a leader.
