Those who say the robot revolution is coming are wrong. It's been here since 1967's Jonny Sokko and his Giant Robot. Since then, purveyors of all things pop culture have embraced robots. In the 1980s, the embrace became love with the introduction of two robots -- Optimus Prime and Voltron.

These are the most potent mechanoids in their respective universes. They have saved millions across the galaxy and sacrificed for the good of all. Yet, there's an underlying question concerning which one would win in a battle.

10 Transformation: Voltron

Voltron's transformation in Voltron.

Optimus' transformation from a vehicle to the current Prime is cool. He probably has one of the smoothest transitions of all the Autobots. During the 1980s animated Transformers: The Movie, his transformation was slowed so viewers could see how well he was engineered.

However, other than his trailer, Optimus is one piece. On the other hand, Voltron takes five individual lion-shaped ships. There is an intricacy to retract the robotic claws and become Voltron's arms and legs. Especially tough is the head, which gives the Defender of the Universe his persona.

9 Powers: Voltron

The Autobot leader is incredibly powerful. As a Prime, Optimus is the keeper of The Spark. This makes him nearly invincible. Despite this, and the fact he's an adept weapons master, he doesn't have many powers.

On top of being a powerhouse, Voltron also has the ability to generate weapons from energy. In the 80s version of Voltron, Defender of the Universe, every Robeast was slaughtered by the Blazing Sword, which seemed to be created from a spatial spark. In the Netflix remake, both the robot and the lions can materialize weaponry through mental determination.

8 Variations: Optimus Prime

There are several more versions of Optimus than Voltron.

Voltron has remained Voltron since his introduction to the U.S. market in 1985. However, since he battled a devious alien empire deep in the galaxy, he didn't have time to help when Earth needed assistance. So, Vehicle Voltron was created.

While those are the only two robotic defenders in that universe, there have been many more Optimus Primes in the Transformer realm. There's the classic version from the 1980s, the prime from Beast Wars, and the ones from the cartoons and movies that came afterward. Each one is slightly different from the other.

7 Leadership: Optimus Prime

Voltron doesn't have a leadership soul, but Optimus does.

Voltron is an amalgamation of individual parts. He technically doesn't have a personality, let alone a leadership role. Citizens across the galaxy know about him but they also realize there are humans behind his creation.

Thus, it's the reason Optimus Prime wins this contest. He is a true leader. Not only of the Autobots that are always right behind him but also of Cybertron itself. Prime is the heart of the Transformers race.

6 Allies: Tie

Both Optimus and Voltron have equal allies.

Though Optimus has a small edge due to the amount of Autobots, he and Voltron are tied for Allies. The latter has fans across a galaxy once ruled by Galra Empire and its evil royal family. Additionally, the five Lion pilots are Voltron's biggest defenders. The reason for this is they are Voltron.

Prime has allies that are both human and Autobot. The Witwicky clan of Sparkplug, Spike, and Daniel, remained compatriots of Optimus and the others through the original series and the animated movie. In later incarnations, The Autobots teamed up with teens and others on Earth.

5 Enemies: Voltron

robeasts

Yes, the Decepticons are a nasty group of Transformers. Megatron in particular is manipulative and powerful, to the point he caused Prime's death. Nevertheless, a majority of his minions are, for lack of a better term, dumb. Furthermore, Megatron's lieutenant, Starscream, is always looking for ways to usurp his boss.

Hence, the reason why Voltron wins this category. Each Robeast concocted by the sorceress Haggar is nasty. They might look silly, but they have the power to knock back Voltron. Until, at least, he used his sword to destroy them.

4 Weaknesses: Optimus Prime

Unfortunately, Optimus is the winner of weaknesses.

Unfortunately, Prime loses this contest. There's just one thing that prevents the Lions from becoming Voltron -- one goes missing. Yet, even if this happens, these members of the Galaxy Alliance have the wherewithal to pilot their Lions to success.

Prime can't live without two things -- Energon and the Spark. The first item is a representation of a multi-vitamin. Remove it, and everyone gets sluggish. The second item is basically Prime's heart. Remove that and he dies.

3 Longevity: Tie

Both robots premiered in the 80s and continued on.

If semantics were in play, then Voltron would be the leader by a few years. Technicalities aside, both robots have been around for nearly four decades in one form or another.

Voltron was the first, premiering in 1981 as Beast King Go LionTransformers Series 1 premiered in American syndication in 1984 after the release of the toy line. They've both continued in one form or another between the late-20th and early-21st centuries.

2 Determination: Optimus Prime

Optimus Prime has more heart and determination than some humans.

Though Voltron is a Legendary Defender, it's hampered by the reactions and emotions of its human crew. Should one of them show any hesitancy, then the rest of the team is at a disadvantage. The robot isn't able to generate a darn thing.

Prime doesn't need swords made out of solar energy. He's more than willing to give a smackdown to Megatron even with an enormous gash in his side. He's determined to get Cybertron back and in the hands of honest leaders no matter the cost to him.

1 The Winner: Voltron

Apologies to Optimus Prime, but Voltron is the winner of this galactic battle. His size alone makes him a formidable hero. It would take the combination of two mega-Autobot robots to equal the other's power and endurance.

This is not to say that Optimus and the Lions wouldn't pair up at some point. They have mutual ideas on how they want to save the galaxy. Most likely, Prime would be the strategist while Voltron did the dirty work.
