The Liminal Zone, the latest collection of horror manga shorts from acclaimed author Junji Ito, will receive a localized English release in summer 2022.

The new anthology was announced at VIZ Media's panel at this year's New York Comic-Con. The Liminal Zone will include four standalone manga stories from the Ito, including a story about a weeping woman and a forest of death. The collection was originally released in Japan last spring.

The Liminal Zone will be the latest of the three-time Eisner Award winner's works to be translated into English by VIZ Media. The publisher also released Ito's Sensor earlier this year to widespread critical acclaim.

In addition to all of his new manga releases, Adult Swim and Ghost in the Shell's Production IG are currently working together on the anime adaptation of Ito's most famous manga series, Uzumaki. Uzumaki tells the story of a high school couple who struggle to escape a rural town where spirals begin appearing on every surface and start driving the townspeople mad with paranoia. The highly anticipated adaptation was originally announced in 2019 and is now scheduled to premiere on Adult Swim this October. Horror fans can preview the new series with a beautifully animated trailer that was released last June. Uzumaki is directed by Hiroshi Nagahama, an anime industry veteran who is known for his work on Revolutionary Girl Utena, Fruits Basket and Mushishi, as well as The Reflection, a 2017 anime he co-created with comic book legend Stan Lee.
