Fans of the viking themed anime Vinland Saga have finally received confirmation that the series will continue for a second season, as well as a brief tease at the changes that will occur to the series' protagonist.

As reported by Crunchyroll, the second season of the popular anime was revealed during the second anniversary celebration for the TV anime, which is based on Makoto Yukimura's manga. While the announcement was only a teaser confirming that a second season is in development, it was accompanied by a new image showing the change in protagonist Thorfinn. The character now looks older and more rugged, and looks to be devoid of the characteristic rage that motivated him throughout Season 1.

Details about the production were also revealed, confirming that Shuhei Yabuta, who directed Season 1 and also served as a 3D animation director on Attack on Titan, will be returning for Season 2. Additionally, it was confirmed that Takahiko Abiru would be returning as the series' character designer. The video trailer did not contain much in the way of new footage, and was primarily a recap of the events of the first season. The trailer does provide a brief glimpse at a new character, as well as tease an upcoming overseas voyage. Series creator Makoto Yukimura also provided special illustration to commemorate the Season 2 announcement.

The announcement did not include any confirmation about the studio or other staff behind the production, and no official release date was provided. The adaptation of Season 1 was created by Wit Studio and aired on NHK General TV in Japan on July 2019. The first season followed Thorfinn through a story that was based on actual historical events concerning the Vikings' invasions of Europe and England. Season 1 also foreshadowed an upcoming journey to North America, or as it was known to the Vikings at the time, Vinland.
