Marvel fans aren't the only ones excited by the thought of a Moon Knight film by director James Gunn: Wilson Fisk would like a piece of that action.

Following the revelation last week by the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" filmmaker that he has a "great idea" for a Moon Knight movie -- and, what's more, he's shared it with Marvel Studios -- "Daredevil" star Vincent D'Onofrio was quick to signal his interest, writing, "Dude I'm in."

Ok Monsignor @JamesGunn if your going to make #MoonKnight into a film. Dude I'm in.

It's important to point out Gunn said it was only an idea, and he mentioned twice that he simply doesn't have the time for a Moon Knight film. However, between the comments by the director and those by D'Onofrio, there's certainly enough to pique the interests of fans -- and probably a Marvel executive or two.

Debuting in 1975, Moon Knight is sometimes considered Marvel's answer to Batman. Although he's never been a top-tier property, Moon Knight has nevertheless been a staple of the Marvel Universe, headlining numerous comics over the past 40 years.

While it may be wishful thinking on the part of fans, he's frequently been mentioned as a street-level crime fighter who could join Marvel's Netflix lineup alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher. On that front, D'Onofrio's portrayal of Wilson Fisk on "Daredevil," and his expressed interest in Gunn's idea, will undoubtedly fuel further speculation about a "Moon Knight" series.

Although D'Onofrio has said he won't reprise his role as Fisk on Netflix's "Defenders" miniseries, he revealed last week that the character's return is in the works; he just doesn't know when exactly that will be.

“I’m totally into the Marvel stuff, big time," he said. "I want to do Marvel, all the time. I love it so much ‘cause they’re so creative over there. They let you bring this whole new thing to an iconic thing that they invented. It’s just so much fun. I love it to death.”
