Actor Vincent D'Onofrio garnered widespread claim from critics and audiences for his portrayal of Wilson Fisk in Netflix's Daredevil. Since the series cancelation, many fans have called for the actor's inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper. In response to a Twitter post by Fandom asking "What's the ONE character you want to be added to 'Spider-Man 3'?," D'Onofrio tweeted the Fisk line "When I was a boy…" He also re-tweeted a comment to the Fandom post by Geek To Me Radio, who wrote "One character I want added to [Spider-Man 3]? D'Onofrio is the second actor to play Wilson Fisk in a live-action of the Daredevil mythos, following Michael Clarke Duncan's portrayal in 2003's Daredevil. D'Onofrio's performance across Daredevil's three seasons received universal acclaim from critics and viewers alike for helping to create a multifaceted villain.

In the show's third season, a loose adaption of the Frank Miller's iconic "Born Again" storyline, Fisk nearly returns to power by manipulating and blackmailing a subsection of the FBI to arrest most of his underworld competition, all while discrediting Murdock as a secret accomplice. However, he's defeated by Daredevil and agrees to return to prison in exchange for his wife Vanessa's freedom.

Despite his status as a Daredevil villain, this version of Fisk only came to prominence through Miller's 1980s comic run of the character, from which the Netflix show took its inspiration. The crimelord supervillain initially debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #50 as a reoccurring Spider-Man foe, known distinctly by his white suit, diamond-tipped laser cane and heavyset appearance that actually composed of solid muscle.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man 3 stars Tom Holland and Zendaya. The film arrives in theaters Dec. 17, 2021.
