In the wake of the sudden cancellation of Marvel's Daredevil, fans have set up an online petition to bring back the show. It has now reached nearly 200,000 signatures, thanks in part to Twitter promotion from Vincent D'Onofrio, who played the villain Wilson Fisk on all three seasons of the Netflix series. However, at least one of D'Onofrio's fans saw little value in the petition compared to another Marvel-related cause: Disney firing James Gunn, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, last year due to some offensive tweets that he made before he was hired. Advised to sign "a petition that matters," D'Onofrio came to the defense of the Daredevil fans who had rallied around the show, saying, "[they] have strong feelings about what they are doing as u do. So I reject your sour tweet... I say2u good luck."

In a later response, D'Onofrio clarified, "It was your comment 'one that matters' which was the mean bit. Not mean to me but mean to all the work the @RenewDaredevil people are putting into it. What people do does matter."

D'Onofrio has also tweeted in support of James Gunn, saying it was "a big bummer" that the director would not be reinstated.

Now available on Netflix, Marvel’s Daredevil Season 3 stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Joanne Whalley as Sister Maggie, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter, Jay Ali as Rahul “Ray” Nadeem and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.
