If you thought the announcement of an "Inhumans" television series could mean we'll finally see Vin Diesel play Black Bolt, you may want to think again.

Asked during a recent Facebook Q&A whether the "Guardians of the Galaxy" star will portray the Inhumans ruler, director James Gunn cut right to the point. "'The Inhumans' is going to be a TV show," he wrote. "Unless Vin wants to take a huge pay cut and sign up to do a TV show it seems unlikely."

That's unsurprising, but it will nevertheless be disappointing to fans of the action star. Diesel himself has hinted at the possibility of a lead role in an "Inhumans" movie, even demonstrating his ability to act silently. “If I said one word, I would level all of London,” he said in October 2015, referring to Black Bolt's ability to destroy planets with the sound of his voice.

However, Marvel Studios quietly removed "Inhumans" from its film schedule in 2014, only for the adaptation to reemerge earlier this week as a television drama set to debut in fall 2017 on ABC, home of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." The series, which will premiere first in IMAX theaters, will focus on the Inhumans Royal Family, which of course includes Black Bolt.

As Gunn suggests, a television budget is "unlikely" to have much room for a salary the size of Diesel's.
