It sounds like there could be some Riddick-related news soon, if Vin Diesel is to be believed.

Diesel's Instagram teased the idea by sharing a throwback photo of the actor as Riddick in the 2013 film of the same name. "Incredible meeting today, thanks team you know who you are," reads the caption. "Let’s just say [Furya may be] closer than you think."

The Riddick franchise kicked off with 2000's Pitch Black, a sci-fi action horror/thriller starring Diesel as Richard B. Riddick, a notorious criminal whose surgically altered eyes allow him to see in the dark. A surprise box office success, the low-budget film gave rise to a much costlier sequel titled The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004. However, after that movie failed both critically and commercially, Diesel and writer/director David Twohy took the property back to its roots with 2013's Riddick, a lean, mean sci-fi action film that earned better (if still mixed) reviews while turning a profit.

Universal and Diesel announced their plans for Riddick 4 shortly after, with Diesel later signing a first-look deal with Universal Television to develop a Riddick spinoff series. As of right now, though, neither of those projects have come to fruition. Diesel's latest tease also comes on the heels of comments he made earlier this year, assuring that Riddick 4 is really happening. "David Twohy, he wrote a great script. It's just a matter of timing when we get that opportunity to shoot that. But I believe we're shooting that in Australia. And it would be the fourth chapter in that series, which would be awesome," said Diesel.

Diesel also hinted at the possibility of a third Riddick video game to follow 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and its 2009 sequel, Assault on Dark Athena. "We did have great success with Escape From Butcher Bay. It feels like an eternity ago now," said Diesel. "But, I imagine that we would take advantage of the gaming space and add an extra chapter, but definitely, the [movie's] script is already written. So it's safe to say that we are moving towards filming the fourth chapter of Riddick."

As the wait continues for Riddick 4, Diesel is gearing up to begin production early next year on Fast & Furious 10, the first half of the main Fast & Furious movies' two-part conclusion. The film arrives in theaters on April 7, 2023.
