Vin Diesel has given his assurance that a new film in the Riddick franchise is in progress, hinting that another installment of the video games inspired by the character is also in the works.

Comments that Diesel made to GamesRadar+ suggest that the fourth entry in the series will soon see the light of day, accompanied by a third video game to follow Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena.

"It's so funny, I was just wearing my Furyion shirt," Diesel remarked, referring to the fictional planet of Furya, where Richard B. Riddick was born. "David Twohy, he wrote a great script. It's just a matter of timing when we get that opportunity to shoot that. But I believe we're shooting that in Australia. And it would be the fourth chapter in that series, which would be awesome." Though Riddick 4: Furya has been touted as a possible name for the next installment, neither a title nor a filming date have been set.

Twohy, who directed Diesel in each of his live-action performances as Riddick, also wrote the screenplays for The Chronicles of Riddick as well as its sequel, Riddick. The Furyan antihero made his first appearance in 2000's Pitch Black, co-written by Twohy and brothers Ken and Jim Wheat. The success of the three existing Riddick movies has proven so great that Twohy and Diesel were reportedly in talks with Universal Television to develop a series to "complement" the films, a prospect that failed to materialize.

Riddick has turned up in a number of video games, most prominently Butcher Bay and Dark Athena, to which Diesel lent his voice talents. A prequel to Pitch Black, the former was called "one of the boldest and most expertly designed titles of the year" by GamesRadar+, garnering positive reviews from across the gaming sphere. The character is also the focus of The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury, an animated short from director Peter Chung that acts as a bridge between the events of Pitch Black and its first sequel, The Chronicles of Riddick.

Alluding to the reception of the first video game featuring his mercenary character, Diesel said, "We did have great success with Escape From Butcher Bay. It feels like an eternity ago now. But, I imagine that we would take advantage of the gaming space and add an extra chapter, but definitely, the [movie's] script is already written. So it's safe to say that we are moving towards filming the fourth chapter of Riddick." Though his schedule is looking tight with the sequel of F9 set for production as early as January, hopes are high that Diesel will don Riddick's characteristic welding goggles for the latest entry in Twohy's string of sequels.
