Toby Kebbell, who played Doctor Doom in 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four reboot in 2015, has signed on for Vin Diesel's Bloodshot film, based on the Valiant Comics superhero. Kebbell will portray the villain named Axe.

The Wrap reports principal photography for Bloodshot will begin in July, with Sony gearing for an R-rating to follow in the footsteps of 1980s blockbusters like RobocopTerminator and Total Recall.

Created by Kevin Van Hook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton, the character made his debut in Eternal Warrior #4. Thanks to the nanites in his body, Bloodshot heals extraordinarily fast, can shapeshift at will and has the ability to hack into computers using only the power of the tiny computers in his bloodstream. Though his mind has been wiped numerous times, Bloodshot also boasts an extreme aptitude for hand-to-hand combat and, as a former soldier, is well-versed in all manner of weapons training.

Although an R-rated Bloodshot was originally targeted for release in 2017, Sony has since staked out 2019. Dave Wilson, Deadpool director Tim Miller’s partner in Blur Studios, is attached to direct from a script by Eric Heisserer (Arrival).
