The release date for Valiant Comics' first live-action movie, starring Vin Diesel as the hero Bloodshot, has been revealed.

According to The Wrap, Valiant's debut movie will open in theaters on February 21, 2020. Diesel will take a break from saying "I am Groot" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to become the violent lead character to kick-off Valiant's slate of superhero films. Production on the live-action comic book movie started this month with Dave Wilson making his feature directorial debut after a prolific animation career.

After the success of Logan and Deadpool, Valiant Comics and Sony's first film is reportedly aiming for an R-rating, which is appropriate for the brutal character. Bloodshot has no problem killing his enemies (often in a very painful way), and his advanced healing factor means he's no stranger to being put through the meat grinder. Bloodshot is also reported to draw inspiration from classic sci-fi/action blockbusters like RoboCopThe Terminator, and Total Recall, but only time will reveal whether Bloodshot's R-rating is a successful start for the new superhero universe.

Directed by Dave Wilson and written by Eric Heisserer, Bloodshot will star Vin Diesel, Eiza Gonzalez, Michael Sheen, Toby Kebell, and Sam Heughan, and is aiming for a February 21, 2020 release date.
