Based on the Valiant comics series, Bloodshot kicked into high gear early this year with the addition of action star Vin Diesel in the title role. Now, following a report last month that the movie was nearing production, the actor this morning made it official with a video on Instagram.

"Day number one, baby," Diesel declared while clad in a Bloodshot T-shirt. "So blessed ... Thank you for believing in me, thank you for believing in us."

Created in 1992 for Valiant Comics by Kevin VanHook, Bob Layton and Don Perlin, Bloodshot is a ex-soldier who acquired nanites in his bloodstream. With regeneration abilities and the power to morph his body, Bloodshot goes on a path to discover who gave him his powers and his real identity. The character is one of the bestselling properties in the Valiant line.

Bloodshot isn't the only Valiant character heading toward the big screen. As part of a five-picture deal with Sony Pictures, fellow Valiant character Faith and Harbinger are in line for solo movies, followed by a crossover between Harbinger and Bloodshot.

Targeted for release in 2020, director Dave Wilson's Bloodshot stars Diesel, Lamorne Morris, Toby Kebbell, Eiza Gonzalez, Sam Huegan, Michael Sheen, Talulah Riley and Alex Hernandez.
