With shared cinematic universes based off of DC and Marvel Comics regularly appearing in theaters around the world, it's hard not to draw direct comparisons to the two lines of superhero movies. And while the Marvel Cinematic Universe may have dominated the box office and professional critics' reception for over a decade, the DC Extended Universe is poised to have a brighter future than ever before as its cinematic slate begins to ramp up once again.

With expectations running high for Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), this year also sees the release of the even more eagerly anticipated Wonder Woman 1984, the DCEU's first solo franchise to receive a direct sequel. Meanwhile, principal photography is officially underway on Matt Reeves' long-awaited Batman reboot while pre-production continues on sequels to Aquaman, Shazam! and a solo film introducing Black Adam to the DCEU.
