After losing Mjolnir in Thor: Ragnarok, Thor made a journey to Nidavellir in Avengers: Infinity War so as to have the dwarf Eitri make him a new weapon to defeat Thanos. That weapon was Stormbreaker. However, in the process of making the weapon, Groot showed his ability to lift Stormbreaker, leaving many to wonder just who might be able to use Thor's new weapon, especially considering that it doesn't have the same worthiness enchantment that Odin put on Mjolnir.

However, the fact that anyone can seemingly lift Stormbreaker doesn't mean that anyone can use it effectively. Check out the video below for more reasons why Groot was able to lift Thor's weapon and what that might mean for both the character and Stormbreaker.

As it's designed to work with Thor's powers, there's no guarantee Groot would be able to use Stormbreaker effectively. Still, the character will forever remain a part of the weapon, as he cut off his own arm in order to bind the weapon together and form its handle.

Groot appeared to die at the end of Infinity War, but it's pretty likely that the character will return in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Although that film was delayed due to the firing of director/writer James Gunn after backlash to some comments he'd made in the past, Disney is reportedly planning to use Gunn's script.
