One of the biggest rivalries in the Marvel Universe is between Venom and his mass-murdering offspring Carnage. The animosity between the two symbiote-powered characters runs so deep that Eddie Brock put aside his long standing grudge against Spider-Man to enter a desperate alliance with the webslinger to stop Carnage on numerous occasions, often with the fate of the entire Marvel Universe hanging in the balance. With Venom 2 poised to bring this epic comic book rivalry to the big screen for the first time, here's an overview of the bad blood between Venom and Carnage.

Originally introduced as an unrepentant villain bonded to Spider-Man's old alien symbiote costume, Eddie shared a cell with serial killer Cletus Kasady. Before escaping with Eddie, the Venom symbiote left behind a symbiote of its own that bonded to Cletus even stronger than Eddie had with his respective symbiote. This led to Cletus' own murderous breakout. Possessing all of Cletus' bloodlust and twisted imagination, Carnage was able to use the symbiote's abilities in even more lethal ways as he went on killing sprees so horrendous Venom would team up with his oldest rival to stop his evil offspring.

Ever since his debut, whenever Carnage appears, it's all hands on deck for the superheroes of the Marvel Universe. From Maximum Carnage causing Cletus to unleash his own army of symbiote children on New York City to Absolute Carnage having Cletus lead a fanatical cult to harvest symbiote codices and awaken their dark god, Cletus has relished in delivering a high body count as he fiendishly uses his symbiote to bloody ends. And with the actions of his offspring reawakening his own sense of power and responsibility, Venom is the figure best suited to stop Carnage once and for all.
