Vegeta has been one of Goku's fiercest rivals since he appeared in Dragon Ball Z. Watching Vegeta change from a villain to one of the series' most beloved heroes has been one of the major highlights of the Dragon Ball franchise. Although he's always lagged behind his rival, some fans think Vegeta will one day surpass Goku in terms of strength.
Vegeta and Goku are pretty much complete opposites. While Goku wants to protect the innocent, Vegeta is obsessed with becoming the greatest fighter in the universe. Although Vegeta works hard, he hasn't manage to surpass Goku yet, and we here at CBR think it's pretty unlikely that he ever will.
One of the biggest reasons that we don't think Vegeta will surpass Goku is creator Akira Toriyama's dislike for the character, meaning that he doesn't have much motivation to make the character the best. Goku and Vegeta's different motives and methods of training are also integral to understanding why Vegeta won't get stronger than Goku.
Check out the video below for a deep analysis of why Vegeta won't become stronger than Goku.
Although they started off as enemies, Goku and Vegeta have worked together in the past to great effect. The two have used the Potara earrings to form the immensely powerful Vegetto and fused using the Fusion Dance to create Gogeta. When the two work together, there are very few enemies that they haven't been able to best.
The rivalry between Goku and Vegeta will always play a major part in the Dragon Ball franchise, and it's always exciting to see the two Saiyans spar against each other. Still, it's pretty unlikely that Vegeta will ever achieve his goal and become more powerful than Goku.
