Thor's arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen him go from cocky prince to a truly heroic character. The series has made it clear that Thor will succeed Odin after his death, and the former All-Father did perish in Thor: Ragnarok. This means that Avengers: Endgame might see Thor take up the mantle of All-Father.

Odin's relationship with his children has been incredibly complex, and he's definitely not father of the year. However, his death is an important part of Thor's journey and set up the version of the character that we're getting in Endgame. There are some physical clues to suggest Thor is becoming more like Odin, and he's also gained a lot of traits that we associate with a good ruler that he didn't have in his first solo film.

It's not totally clear at this time what will become of Thor after Endgame. Although it seems pretty unlikely he'll die, it is a distinct possibility. However, actor Chris Hemsworth has expressed his desire to reprise his role in the future, and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi also seems to want to direct another film focused on the God of Thunder. Of course, what happens in Endgame will definitely inform the shape of that story, especially since Valkyrie is set to return in that movie and, possibly, Hela, too.
