After destroying half the universe in Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos seemingly retired to become a farmer. However, the trailers for Avengers: Endgame have made it clear that the titular team isn't going to take their defeat lying down and that they're going to take the fight straight to the Mad Titan. Although most fans figure that the movie's climax will feature a pitched battle between the Avengers and Thanos, there might be a chance that they face off much, much earlier in the film.

There's some evidence to suggest that this might actually end up being the case, especially when looking at the first trailers for Endgame, which seem to contain some indications that characters will get to Thanos' retirement planet sooner rather than later. Plus, from a storytelling perspective, it might actually make a lot of sense to have the Avengers fight Thanos at the beginning of the film.

Depending on what happens to Thanos in Endgame, it's entirely possible that he'll play some role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Phase Four rolls around. Early reports have indicated that Eros of Titan -- the brother of Thanos -- will play a role in The Eternals, so it's possible he'll feature in that movie in some capacity, though it's possible it will just be a cameo.
