Many details and secrets are still surrounding Wonder Woman 1984 but one of the sequel's biggest mysteries involves the return of Diana Prince's lost love Steve Trevor. During the climactic finale of the original 2017 film, Steve tragically sacrificed his life in the last days of World War I to thwart Ares' plot to utilize devastating chemical weapons to prolong the global conflict and continue gaining power. Actor Chris Pine was long-confirmed to reprise his role as Diana's ill-fated paramour in an unknown capacity in the sequel, with the film's first trailer confirming him to be back in the land of the living decades after his untimely death.

While Pine has hinted that his return will likely be a short-lived one that may not extend by the upcoming film, the mystery remains how exactly Steve is back from the grave nearly 70 years later, confused by the more advanced United States he awakens to as he is reunited with Wonder Woman once again.

Check out the video below for the full theory how Steve Trevor could be apparently alive and well in the upcoming Wonder Woman sequel, what his renewed survival may mean for the film overall and what this may entail for him in the future of the DC Extended Universe.

From dark, ancient magic linked to the film's villains to Maxwell Lord's enigmatic role in the sequel, there are plenty of potential reasons why Steve has been resurrected to assist Diana one last time to help save the world once more. And hopefully the time-displaced World War pilot won't be overly distracted by modern trash cans and shopping malls to keep his focus on the mission.
