Spider-Man is one of the most popular superheroes in the world. He's appeared in animated films, movies, books and pretty much every other medium imaginable. However, there's one movie that even the most devout fans of the wall-crawler will never get to see.

In the mid-80s, Cannon Films purchased the rights to Spider-Man and characters associated with the wall-crawler for $225,500, with the stipulation that the studio would make a film with Spider-Man in it by early 1990. Cannon Films was known for low-budget films such as Hercules and American Ninja, and it definitely intended to create a movie, but an increasingly bizarre production kept that from happening.

The team behind Cannon Films didn't really know that much about the character, so the film's plot featured Peter Parker getting a major and bizarre change to his origin. Legendary creator Stan Lee begged the studio not to use that initial script. Lee also wanted to star in the film as Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson.

The history behind Cannon Films' Spider-Man movie only gets weirder from there. Check out the video below for more information on the Spider-Man movie you never got to see.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Peter Parker is played by Tom Holland. Although Parker apparently died at the end of Avengers: Infinity War as a result of Thanos' snap, he's set to return in Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is set after the conclusion of Endgame.

A large number of characters from the Spider-Man mythos were recently brought to the big screen for the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which achieved quite a bit of critical acclaim. Sony is currently considering spinoffs based on the property, in addition to a sequel.
