First appearing in Dragon Ball #161, Piccolo started out as a villain before eventually becoming a hero and one of the greatest allies of Goku and the Z-Fighters. Although he hasn't been able to keep up with the increasingly powerful Saiyans in terms of power, Piccolo has still played a key role in a number of different sagas throughout Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. Piccolo has changed a ton over the course of the series and, despite his scary appearance, Piccolo has done a lot of great and kind things in the Dragon Ball universe.

One of Piccolo's most important acts comes in how he served as somewhat of a surrogate father and trainer for Gohan following Goku's death. The relationship between the Namekian and the young half-Saiyan has been one of the most interesting parts of the franchise, as it's Gohan's love for Piccolo that seems to have played a key role in softening the former villain's heart. Since training Gohan, Piccolo has repeatedly proven shown that he's willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of his friends and to even fight to protect them.

Check out the video below for ten times Piccolo was actually a pretty chill guy.

It's unlikely that Piccolo will ever become one of the strongest fighters in the Dragon Ball universe again. However, his ability to fuse with other Namekians might mean that he could see another power-up before the end of the series. He's already fused with Kami and Nail, which resulted in a change in his personality. Piccolo is also proof that Goku is particularly good at winning former villains to his side, so it will be interesting to see what Dragon Ball Super villains decide to stick with his team.
