Given his signature ability to dispatch opponents with a single blow, Saitama -- the unassuming protagonist of the massively popular anime franchise One-Punch Man -- isn't known to have a particularly extensive recurring cast of antagonists to continually confront him, with several notable exceptions. And while no release date for a third season of the fan-favorite anime series has currently been announced, the ongoing manga series has confirmed one such rival will be making their return in a major way in the anime adaptation's future: Speed-o-Sound Sonic.

Early in the first season, the aspiring ninja warrior had been humiliated during a chance encounter with Saitama and swore to kill him to restore his own personal sense of honor. Over the course of the series, Sonic has proved to be more than a sneering villain, occasionally opposing monsters that have threatened the city while maintaining his obsessive vendetta against the unassuming superhero. And this rivalry is poised to take new heights in the upcoming third season.

Sonic briefly had a rematch of Saitama during Season 2 that ended even more embarrassingly for the antihero, defeated without Saitama even making physical contact with him. Desperate, Sonic nearly accepted an offer from the Monster Association to transform himself into a fearsome creature before accidentally botching the transformation process. Despite this, the manga series has teased a renewed showdown between the two old rivals once again, as Sonic seeks to regain his honor by any means necessary.
