One of the things in Todd Phillips' Joker film that's caught the attentions of audiences is its use of dance scenes. At several points in the movie Joaquin Phoenix, who plays Arthur Fleck/Joker, dances. These tend to occur at pivotal moments in the film. However, there's something you might not have realized about one of the most pivotal dance sequences in the entire film.
We're talking, of course, about Joker dancing in a bathroom after he kills two finance bros and chasing the third. This moment is key in the character's transformation into Joker, and the bathroom scene was originally much different, with Fleck tossing his weapon and getting sick in a toilet. However, Phoenix and Phillips improvised a dance sequence in the movie after feeling the original version of the scene wasn't what they wanted.
That's definitely not all there is to the scene. Check out the video below for more you might not have realized about the Joker's dance in his solo film.
Although Joker won the coveted Golden Lion at this year's Venice Film Festival, critics were less kind to the film upon its release, with the Clown Prince of Crime's solo movie sinking to 68% on Rotten Tomatoes, though it's noteworthy that the audience score remains high. However, that doesn't seem to have affected Joker's box office negatively, as the movie has already earned over $738 million worldwide. This puts it on track to become the highest-grossing R-rated film ever, provided it can beat out the two Deadpool movies. That being said, the film is still going strong, so it's entirely possible that may happen.
Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais and Shea Whigham.
