VIDEO: What Nobody Realized About Heimdall in the MCU

Heimdall Idris Elba Thor Ragnarok

Although he was typically a supporting character, Idris Elba's Heimdall played an important role in all three of Thor's solo films. He also appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, though he was killed early on by Thanos. At this time it's unclear if Elba or Heimdall will ever return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Regardless of if the character returns, there's a lot about Heimdall that you might not know.

The Watcher of Worlds is immensely powerful, even for an Asgardian. He's got amazing powers of perception that allow him to see across the Nine Realms, and he's repeatedly proven himself capable of defeating some of the strongest enemies in the MCU. Important to the character is his sword: Hofund. His weapon was enchanted by Odin and is able to channel powerful cosmic sources, and he uses it to kill enemies with a single blow.

Considering his powers, there might be something of a plot hole in Infinity War considering Heimdall doesn't seem to see Thanos' ship coming prior to its appearance at the end of Thor: Ragnarok. Although the Mad Titan is powerful, there's no real indication that he might have found a way to overcome Heimdall's powers. There's also the matter of why Heimdall chose to send Hulk to Earth instead of Thor, but we think we might just have an answer for that question.

There's a lot about Heimdall in the MCU that you might not have realized. Check out the video below to find out even more about one of the MCU's most interesting characters.

Elba has previously said that he didn't particularly enjoy working on the first two Thor movies. However, he did enjoy working with director Taika Waititi on Thor: Ragnarok. Assuming that Heimdall doesn't return to life, it's possible that Elba could return in some other capacity in the future, potentially providing a voice for another character.
