The Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured some of the most shocking moments in the history of film, so we've compiled a list of the twenty most unexpected moments in the franchise.

Of course, a list like this is always going to be at least a little subjective, and there might have been moments on here that you didn't find shocking at all. However, some of these moments undeniably came as a shock to pretty much everyone when they happened in theaters. Watch out, though, as some of these definitely contain spoilers for Captain Marvel, which is in theaters now.

Of course, Avengers: Endgame -- the next installment in the blockbuster franchise -- will certainly have some pretty shocking moments of its own. A lot of reports indicate that the movie will feature time travel and that Tony Stark/Iron Man and/or Steve Rogers/Captain America might die. There are also sequels to Spider-Man: HomecomingBlack PantherDoctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set to make their way to theaters sooner rather than later, and they'll almost certainly have shocking moments of their own.

Marvel Studios is also developing films focused on Black Widow and the Eternals. Considering how important the former is to the MCU and the impressive strength and history of the latter in the comics, this list is certain to change sooner rather than later.
