As Avengers: Endgame nears closer, a lot of theories are starting to suggest that maybe Thanos isn't going to be the movie's big villain after all. There are some fans who think that the film might even see the Mad Titan helping the good guys defeat whatever bigger evil lurks ahead. However, what if that bigger evil is the devil himself: Mephisto.

Created by Stan Lee and John Buscema in 1968's The Silver Surfer #3, Mephisto has served as the villain for many of Marvel's most popular heroes, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him make his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe sooner rather than later. We think there's a chance that he might have actually been masterminding the events of the MCU in much the same way Thanos was behind the events of Avengers. There's even a chance that the fiend might make his first appearance in Endgame.

Check out the video below for more on our theory as to why Mephisto might be the real mastermind behind the events of Infinity War and appear in Endgame.

If Mephisto doesn't make an appearance in Endgame, it still seems pretty likely that he's going to appear in the MCU at some point. However, bringing Mephisto into the fold is definitely going to be challenging, and it will take the right heroes to make his appearance feel  genuine and grounded.
