Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada appeared on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” last night to promote “Captain America” #34. On sale now, the new issue finds former Steve Rogers sidekick Bucky Barnes assuming the role of Captain America. This development came as a pronounced shock to host Stephen Colbert, who had been laboring under the belief that he was the chosen successor of Captain America since Quesada appeared on the show nearly one year ago – per instructions left in the will of Steve Rogers — to deliver the anchor Captain America’s famous shield.
“Bucky Barnes? He’s a kid!” protested Colbert, reminding Quesada that Steve Rogers tapped Colbert as the new Cap for a reason, his “red, white and blue balls.”
Cool and collected in the face of Colbert’s harsh accusations of treachery, Quesada gratified the controversial talk show host with the revelation that despite his unsuccessful bid for the U.S. presidency in our reality, Colbert remains a tenable 2008 candidate in the Marvel Universe.
“You are polling incredibly high among super-humans and mutants,” said Quesada, who went on to discuss the Skrull situation in “Secret Invasion,” which he indicated would be a crucial issue were Colbert to pursue the White House in the Marvel Universe.
