A recent study used Google and YouTube analytics to determine which competitive online video game had the most cheaters, as well as determining which country had the densest population of cheaters.

The study was conducted by Surfshark, a secure VPN provider company. The site hosted a graph that shows the number of YouTube views on cheating-related videos for each game and the ratio of aimbot-related searches to wallhack-related searches. Surfshark noted that "an aimbot's crosshairs zone in on the opponent automatically, the moment they wander into the open" and wallhacking "provides the cheater with a live guide to exactly where their opponents are – even if they're out of view behind a wall."

Notably, the free-to-play battle royale shooter Fortnite was the video game with the most cheaters. Fortnite received 26.82 million YouTube views for cheating-related videos and has a 2:1 ratio of aimbot searches to wallhack searches. The online shooter has had up to 350 million players and 10.5 million years of total player game time, and its Galactus event in December 2020 attracted 15.3 million concurrent players. Following Fortnite on the graph is Overwatch with 9.3 million YouTube views and then Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with 6.71 million. Counter-Strike was unique in that its wallhack-related searches significantly outnumber those for aimbots. Other games on the list include Call of Duty: Warzone, Destiny 2, ValorantApex Legends and more.

According to the study, the most searches for cheating content per capita come from Sweden, with the United States following in second place. Swedes performed 145 Google cheating-related searches per one million people. Surfshark cites Sweden's strong performance in esports as a possible reason, adding that "the top three Swedish Fortnite players have combined winnings of over $1m."
