2018 was a bloody year for superheroes. Whether in comics, the DC Extend Universe, TV shows or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a lot of fan-favorite characters didn't make it through the year. It's sometimes hard to remember exactly how many have died, but don't worry. We've got you covered.

Due to the events of Avengers: Infinity War, it's natural that the Marvel Cinematic Universe had more deaths than any other superhero universe. However, Deadpool 2 also featured the particularly brutal deaths of many members of the X-Force. It's unclear how much the Merc With a Mouth messing with time will change what happens going forward. Additionally, with Disney's impending acquisition of key assets from 21st Century Fox -- including the character -- it's unclear what the future of that franchise and the X-Force team-up film will be if that sale goes through.

There are a lot more superheroes that have died in 2018. Check out the video below for a list of every superhero we lost this year.

Although many of the superheroes who died in Avengers: Infinity War will likely return, it's unknown exactly who will return for Marvel Studios' upcoming Phase Four. We know for sure that Peter Parker, Nick Fury and Maria Hill will return in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Doctor Strange will be revived for Doctor Strange 2, and T'Challa will star in Black Panther 2. We also know that a lot of the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy will return for the third installment in their franchise.

Of course, comics characters rarely stay dead for long, so it's likely that a number of the superheros that return in the future. The TV show characters, especially Rip Hunter, might also make cameos in the future, but it's unlikely that they'll return for long, as the TV shows have been somewhat better about keeping characters permanently dead.
