WARNING: The following post contains spoilers for Captain Marvel, in theaters now.

Set in the '90s, Captain Marvel revealed a lot about the Marvel Cinematic Universe that was previously unknown. In addition to fleshing out the backstories of Nick Fury and Agent Coulson more, the movie introduced the Skrulls, who will likely play a part in the future of the MCU. One of the biggest twists of the movie was that the Skrulls were actually just intergalactic refugees, while the Kree are actually the bad guys. This provided a lot of context to the events of both Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel, as the latter is referenced in those films.

Captain Marvel will, of course, return in Avengers: Endgame, which will see the immensely powerful hero joining up with Earth's Mightiest Heroes to take on Thanos and reverse the snap. Although it's unknown at this time what will happen to her after that film, her first solo film is proving a monumental success at the box office in its first week, meaning that it's pretty likely Carol Danvers isn't going anywhere soon.
