Archie Comics editor-in-chief Victor Gorelick has died. He was 78-years-old.

Archie Comics shared the news of Gorelick's passing in a message on Twitter.

"We are extremely heartbroken and devastated to inform the Archie family of the passing of Archie Comics icon and Editor in Chief, Victor Gorelick, who made Riverdale his home for over sixty years," the statement read. "No person embodied the Archie spirit more than Victor, who was a leader, friend, and mentor to everyone that walked through the doors of Archie. a ilfelong [sic] friend and mentor to Archie Comics Co-CEO, Jon Goldwater - and an inspiration to the entire Archie Comics family - Victor will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Kathie, his family, his friends, and his many fans."

The statement did not list a cause of death for Gorelick.

Gorelick joined Archie Comics at 16 and served in a variety of roles at the company. He became Archie Comics' editor-in-chief in 2007. The next year, in 2008, Gorelick received an Inkpot Award for his achievements in the comics industry. Outside of Archie Comics, Gorelick worked with such organizations as the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, the Comic Magazine Association of America's Code Authority Guidelines Committee and worked as an instructor at New York's Kingsborough Community College.
