With the critical acclaim and growing list of awards and nominations being heaped on Black Panther and emotional gut punch that was Avengers: Infinity War, 2018 was definitely a big year for superhero movies. But one surprise fan-favorite was Venom from Sony Pictures, which performed surprisingly well at the box office. The film pulled in $855.8 million, which is respectable for a movie with a relatively modest production budget of $100 million.

However, very little is known about the planned sequel, even to costar Michelle Williams. In an interview with Variety, when asked if she was privy to any insider information about the sequel, she jokingly responded, “I don’t even know much about Venom 1!...No, no, I don’t know anything about it…”

Given the film’s unexpected success, it’s no wonder a sequel is in the works. Sony swiftly greenlit a follow-up movie to be written by the same screenwriter, Kelly Marcel, who will also be an executive producer.

Tom Hardy is of course expected to reprise his role as everyone’s favorite symbiote. And both Woody Harrelson, who played Cletus Kasady in the films' post-credits scene and Williams, who played Anne Weying, are expected to return, as well.

So, unfortunately, it looks like fans will likely have a while to wait before any details about the sequel are made public.
