WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Web of Venom: Wraith #1 by Donny Cates, Guiu Villanova, Dean White and VC's Clayton Cowles, on sale now.

In 2019's Guardians of the Galaxy #3, by Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw, it was revealed the mysterious and powerful Kree loner known as Wraith had joined Eros' Dark Guardians of the Galaxy to hunt down Gamora, the daughter of Thanos. However, Wraith had a very particular reason for joining this evil alliance: He was in search of answers about how to finally put an end to the curse that had made him Wraith. All he knew was that his powers were somehow connected to the ancient god of the symbiotes Knull and now, in Web of Venom: Wraith #1, the cosmic antihero goes on a quest for answers.

While Wraith heads into the far reaches of space to unearth the truth about the Exolon, a kind of prototype symbiote that gave him his abilities, he ends up learning a far bigger truth than he anticipated: there is another mysterious cosmic god out there, and they may be able to stop Knull.

In order to recruit Wraith to his cause, Eros had gifted him with a teleportation device and a set of coordinates that would set him on a path to answers. Wraith's first stop was on Marxhotz, the planet where he was long ago born. When he gets there, Wraith locates his scientist father's old laboratory. There, he discovers that his father was working on a source of light that would push back the forces of darkness, namely Knull, the god of the black and of the abyss.

The wall inside his father's laboratory shows plenty of scribbles written around the twirling symbol of Knull. However, at the center of the circle, he finds another mysterious symbol: a sphere, surrounded by six dots, evenly spread two by two.

After making this discovery, Wraith then travels to his next destination: Klyntar, homeworld of the symbiotes. In the pages of Venom, we previously learned that Klyntar was actually just a massive prison built to contain Knull. This massive cage would eventually be destroyed at the end of 2019's Absolute Carnage, as Knull woke up and freed himself. But in Web of Venom: Wraith #1, Wraith arrives at Klyntar moments before its destruction.

When it explodes and Knull is freed, Wraith comes face-to-face with the god of the dark. Knull rips the Exolon from Wraith and kicks him back into the emptiness of space. While he floats in the black, he is briefly washed over by a bright light, and at its center is the same symbol he found in his father's lab. This light leaves Wraith a message, and he takes it right to Earth.

Venom Wraith

Wraith uses his teleportation device to find Eddie Brock in New York City. Now that he is left without his powers, the Kree only has moments before he fades away into oblivion, and he uses that time to warn Eddie that something else is coming for him. This light, it turns out it is Knull's opposite: a god of light.

The revelation that there is another cosmic powerhouse in the Marvel Universe is massive. In Venom, we learned that Knull was a being as old -- if not older -- than the universe itself. He existed in the darkness before the first light. But now, we know he's not the only ancient force of that magnitude. His light opposite is also out there, and it seems like it's also coming for Eddie Brock.

For the time being, we don't yet know if this god of light is a force for good or evil. But if they truly are the opposite of Knull, a being who's effectively evil incarnate, this god of light could be the best hope Marvel's heroes have of defeating Knull. And if he's looking for Eddie Brock, he could be the key to victory in Marvel's upcoming King in Black event.
