Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland was reportedly spotted on the set of Sony's upcoming Venom movie as Peter Parker, not his webhead alter ego.

According to Jon Schnepp in an episode of Collider Heroes, "Tom Holland was on set filming scenes on Venom for at least two days as Peter Parker." He went on to clarify that "I’m not saying Spider-Man is in the film. When I say Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is in the film, I’m saying Peter Parker is in the film."

Schnepp's clarification follows yesterday's report, in which he said that "All I'm saying is that Spider-Man -- and I'm talking about Tom Holland's Spider-Man -- is going to be in Venom." This new claim does provide a bit of clarification regarding the young actor's involvement in the Spider-Man spinoff flick. If Holland does indeed show his face in Venom, then it begs the huge question as to whether the film does actually exist inside of the MCU - a conundrum that has been ongoing since the movie was announced.

Sony, for its part, has teased a meeting between Spider-Man and his symbiote-infected enemy at some point, though it was believed that would occur in a non-R-rated film somewhere down the road. Previously, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige went so far as state flat out that no, Spidey won’t be involved in the Venom film when asked about it in late-2017, so Holland's involvement comes as something of a surprise.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Jenny Slate, Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed. The film arrives Oct. 5, 2018.
