Thor: Love and Thunder is set to bring in a brand new villain played by Christian Bale known as Gorr the God Butcher. In the comics, Gorr is an alien with a passionate disdain for all Gods. Because of this, he leads a conquest to cleanse the universe of Gods by killing them with his powerful weapon, All-Black the Necrosword. However, the comics' history of the weapon could also tie into another Marvel property and finally link the Marvel multiverse in a big way.

All-Black was first introduced in Thor: God of Thunder #2 by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic and, as the name suggests, it is completely black. It was constructed by the God of the Symbiotes, Knull, and is actually the first symbiote. The blade joined Knull on a deicidal rampage that predates Gorr. Eventually, the weapon left Knull, finding its way to Gorr and giving him the powers and strength of the souls Knull possessed along with immortality. Knull's return is later preceded by the resurrection of another famous symbiote that is also appearing in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

In the sequel to Venom, serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) returns and gains a symbiote ally in Carnage. With the symbiote, Cletus wreaks murderous havoc due to the enhanced abilities the suit gives him. That being said, with Gorr appearing in Thor: Love and Thunder, Carnage may also have a higher calling waiting for him. In the comics event Absolute Carnage by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman, Carnage returns from the dead to foretell Knull's forthcoming conquest of Earth. As a result of Knull, Carnage becomes even more powerful than before and is an even more dangerous foe for Venom.

With the pieces in place, it's possible that Gorr and his rampage across the galaxy could reawaken Knull as the next threat of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Should he lose All-Black by the end of Thor: Love and Thunder, it could return to its previous master, implying that another film universe may officially be joining the MCU canon. However, the larger tease could be set up in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, thanks to Carnage's appearance and ties to the symbiote God.

The Venom sequel could drop the hint, with Carnage drawing his telltale spiral symbol and alluding to the arrival of Knull. While the Venom series' ties to the MCU were already teased with the Daily Bugle, there still isn't any hard confirmation that this semi-multiverse with Disney and Sony is well and truly connected. But with Gorr wielding All-Black, the gap could close even more, if not completely, to welcome the symbiotes into the MCU.

There's still much to speculate about if and how the Sony Marvel films will connect to the larger MCU. But with Thor: Love and Thunder introducing Gorr, the possibility grows exponentially, thanks to the inclusion of his now-iconic weapon. So while nothing is confirmed for the future of Disney and Sony's Marvel universes, the stage may be set for a titanic unification through a powerful weapon.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage was recently bumped from Sept. 24 to Oct. 15 and Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters on May 6, 2022.
