Donny Cates' run on Venom has put the Lethal Protector through several ordeals, from battling eldritch gods to struggling over control of his body, Eddie Brock has not had a great year. And things look like they are only going to get worse.A new variant for Venom #26 was posted on social media. The variant showcases a mysterious new character, wearing a suit that has a red symbol resembling the insignia that Venom bears. This new character also possesses a flowing white cape. Eagle eyed viewers will notice this figure's uncanny resemblance to Knull, God of the Symbiotes.RELATED: Marvel's X-Men and Spider-Man/Venom FCBD Titles Will Be Available in July

The character first appeared in a two-page spread in Venom #25 by Ryan Stegman, JP Mayer and Frank Martin. He is only part of the upcoming obstacles that Eddie will face, as the Maker is still plotting to return to the Ultimate Universe and Knull is on the warpath toward Earth. Venom #26 will also introduce the armored Virus, who promises to be a thorn in Venom's side.

The first phase of Cates' Venom run concluded with the "Venom Island" storyline. Eddie Brock traveled to Isla de Huesos to rid himself of the corrupting influence of the Carnage symbiote. His son Dylan came to his rescue, and afterward Eddie told the Avengers about Knull, asking for their help. Perhaps this mysterious character will serve as an unexpected ally, or yet another foe for the wicked web-slinger to face.

Venom #26 -- which begins the "Venom Beyond" arc by Donny Cates and Iban Coello -- will be available on July 15.
