Venom Movie's Chinese Posters Are Gorgeously Frightening

Ahead of its premiere Friday in China, Sony's Venom has debuted two beautiful, and slightly terrifying, new posters.

Director Ruben Fleischer's film has already grossed $544.8 million worldwide since it began its global rollout on Oct. 5, all but ensuring a sequel, as well as a continuation Sony's planned cinematic universe featuring such ancillary Spider-Man character as Morbius, Black Cat, Silver Sable and Kraven the Hunter.

Enabled by a sizable investment by Tencent, Venom's release in the world's second-largest film market comes amid a major digital marketing campaign by the Chinese internet company. As The Hollywood Reporter points out, the Sony feature opens in Chinese theaters at the end of a quiet spell there for major U.S. releases.

Journalist Eddie Brock is trying to take down Carlton Drake, the notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation. While investigating one of Drake's experiments, Eddie's body merges with the alien Venom -- leaving him with superhuman strength and power. Twisted, dark and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinker, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate and Woody Harrelson.
