Fans were finally rewarded with a big-screen showdown between Eddie Brock and Cletus Kasady in 2021's Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which introduced some new elements into the symbiotic enemies. Venom's evolution into a "lethal protector" and Carnage's debut as a symbiotic serial killer took some liberties with the source material that didn't always pay off.

There are quite a few moments in Venom: Let There Be Carnage that don't make a lot of sense due to a lack of explanation or execution, leaving only die-hard comic fans with the full story as moviegoers were left with a few questions that we'll be exploring further today.

10 What Caused The Mutation That Gave Shriek Her Deadly Sonic Abilities?

Shriek and Carnage from Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Venom: Let There Be Carnage introduced Frances Barrison/Shriek to the story, who first appeared in the comics during the Maximum Carnage event. The movie exaggerated the relationship between Shriek and Cletus Kasady that gave the characters a deeper connection, though it left a few questions when it came to Shriek's origins.

Frances reveals that she has a mutation that has caused her devastating sonic abilities, but there's no other indication of a cause for the mutation. In the comics, Shriek's powers were activated after a run-in with Cloak, though there's no indication of that in the movie. Mutants like the X-Men could exist in Venom's universe, though with no other signs it's just an unanswered question.

9 How Was The Carnage Symbiote Created Through Cletus Kasady's Bite?

Another departure from the comics came with the creation of the Carnage symbiote, which is originally an offspring of Venom that was left behind after a prison escape to bond with serial killer Cletus Kasady. In the movie, Cletus Kasady bites Eddie Brock before his execution, which creates the Carnage symbiote with little explanation.

Not only does Cletus gain a powerful symbiote suit, but Carnage also had a distinct personality. While Carnage did refer to Venom as his "father" on more than one occasion, it still left a lot of unanswered questions about the alien species.

8 How Did Venom Instantly Know The Visual Landmark For Kasady's Victims?

The Venom symbiote displayed its own reporter skills while working with Eddie Brock and his investigation into Cletus Kasady's murders, which included the unknown location of his victims' bodies that were discovered on the cells of Kasady's prison walls.

While it makes sense that Venom's enhanced senses and abilities would be able to recreate the text and images seen by Eddie, the symbiote was also instantly able to search the location up on the internet. How did the alien symbiote who has mostly been with Eddie Brock during its time on Earth know the exact location without even a bit of searching online?

7 How Was Carnage Able To Reform And Reshape Kasady's Human Body?

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The Carnage and Venom symbiotes have very different qualities both in the comics and the movies, but one of Carnage's particular powers in the movie didn't make much sense. Carnage was able to split Kasady's body in half and then reform it together during both his escape from prison and his final battle with Venom.

While the symbiote is capable of incredibly accelerated healing, tearing the host body apart seems like it would create an unnecessary weakness in battle. The symbiote was also able to move through its tendrils to reform Kasady's body, though despite this seemingly genetic connection it was still able to be separated from its host.

6 Why Would Venom Possess Mrs. Chen If He Knew He Was Killing Hosts?

Venom and Eddie Brock had a falling out in Venom: Let There Be Carnage that sent the alien symbiote on the hunt for a new host. He traveled around San Francisco and even attended a costumed rave party, though he wasn't able to create a symbiotic bond with his new hosts like Eddie Brock and they were dying off while under his control.

Venom knew that the hosts were dying while he was possessing them, though he still took over their ally, Mrs. Chen. While it didn't seem like she suffered any negative effects from her time with the symbiote, it was still a risk that didn't make much sense.

5 How Did The Carnage Symbiote Access The Internet Through A Laptop?

The Carnage symbiote accessing the internet in Venom Let There Be Carnage

One of the most ridiculous moments in Venom: Let There Be Carnage saw Carnage use his new alien symbiote to access the internet by extending tendrils into a laptop. The symbiote was then able to expertly hack into Ravencroft's secure files to locate Shriek, which seemed like a difficult task for anyone.

While this ability is one that has appeared in the  Venom: Carnage Unleashed series as both Venom and Carnage have been able to extend their symbiotes through the internet or project themselves into cyberspace, it makes about as much sense now as it did then.

4 Why Was Venom Afraid Of Carnage When He Saw It Was A Red Symbiote?

Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock in Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Another small moment included in the film that only die-hard fans of the characters would understand is the fear shown by the Venom symbiote when he realizes that Carnage is a"red one." Brock is able to convince Venom to continue the fight, though there isn't much explanation given to movie fans about why Venom was scared of a red symbiote.

This could be a reference to the alternate way Carnage was created when it fused with the blood, or it could be a reference to the reveal that the 1000th symbiote in Venom's genetic line being more powerful than those before it, though that was actually the Toxin symbiote in the comics.

3 Wouldn't The Carnage Symbiote Still Exist Inside The Venom Symbiote?

After Venom was victorious in the final battle of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, he devoured the Carnage symbiote after it had been separated from Cletus Kasady. While this seems like an ending for the Carnage symbiote, fans have already seen something like this in the first movie.

When Riot attempted to absorb the Venom symbiote into itself during their climactic battle, Venom remained alive inside Riot. He was able to fight free from the Riot symbiote when it was being bombarded with high frequencies, which means it's possible the Carnage symbiote could also return if it manages to survive within Venom.

2 What Caused Detective Patrick Mulligan's Mysterious Transformation?

Detective Mulligan Cletus Kasady Killings Newspaper

Detective Patrick Mulligan was given an enhanced connection to Shriek while he also investigated Eddie Brock's involvement in the Life Foundation event from the first film. After he was held hostage by Carnage and forced into battle with Shriek, a near-death Mulligan was revealed to have developed bright blue eyes that somewhat resembled Shriek's own artificial eye.

While Patrick Mulligan was the first host of the Toxin symbiote in the comics, there wasn't any indication that a new symbiote or any of Shriek's energy was somehow transferred to him, leaving his actual transformation ague and undefined.

1 Why Were Eddie Brock And Venom Transported To The MCU Universe?

Venom watching Spider-Man in the MCU

The post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage saw Eddie Brock and Venom relaxing in their vacation hotel room discussing the symbiote's immense hive knowledge from across multiple universes. They are suddenly transported to another reality where they see the news report from Spider-Man: Far From Home that revealed Peter Parker's identity to the world.

This was later followed up on in Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scene where he was then returned to his own universe, though it's never made clear why he was transported to the MCU universe. The spell brought villains over who knew Spider-Man's identity, which didn't seem to apply to Eddie Brock in Sony's universe.
