A recently posted promo for Sony's upcoming superhero sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, has not only excited fans for the film, but for a rumored crossover with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a post, Sony teased that there are only two weeks before the release of the Venom sequel. The video poster was accompanied by a caption reading, "In TWO weeks, the universe is expanding in [Venom: Let There be Carnage], exclusively in movie theaters on October 1."

The suspiciously worded post has fueled speculation that Venom: Let There Be Carnage will introduce its titular alien antihero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans suspected a connection after star Tom Hardy was seen wearing a hat bearing the logo of the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, which delves into the existence of the multiverse, connecting various franchises that were previously unrelated to the MCU, such as Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.

Rumors surrounding his inclusion in Marvel Studios' rapidly expanding film franchise have circulated for some time already, after audio from the film's post-credits scene reportedly leaked. The details revealed in the audio was seemingly corroborated by audience members from early screenings, urging others not to miss the post-credits scene. However, the exact content of Venom: Let There Be Carnage's post-credits scene cannot be confirmed at this time.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage will introduce a number of characters from the Venom and Carnage mythos, including Naomie Harris as Shriek and Stephen Graham as Detective Mulligan (potentially an adaptation of Pat Mulligan, who eventually bonds to the symbiote known as Toxin). Additionally, Sean Delaney and Larry Olubamiwo have been cast in unknown roles.

Although Venom has had his own story thus far, separate from that of Spider-Man, unlike his comic book counterpart, director Andy Serkis previously teased that the two characters will meet in the future. "Look, it depends when you want to get there and also what the appetite is," Serkis stated. "If people want more Venom stories, then to jump straight to Spider-Man, you could be missing out on so many great supervillain characters between now and then." He added, "Point taken, yes, everybody wants to see Venom fight Spider-Man... So I think, again, it's appetite...they'll be sacrificing all of that stuff if they want to rush to that."

Directed by Andy Serkis and starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom and Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady/Carnage, Venom: Let There Be Carnage premieres Oct. 1 only in theaters.
