Parks and Recreation alum Jenny Slate is in talks to join Tom Hardy in Sony’s Venom film. Variety reports that Slate is “in negotiations” to play a scientist in the movie.
Slate appeared alongside Avengers: Infinity War star Chris Evans in Gifted, which hit theaters earlier this year. She has leant her voice to a variety of animated characters in films such as Zootopia, The Secret Life of Pets, The LEGO Batman Movie and more. Her past credits also include Obvious Child, Married, Saturday Night Live and House of Lies.
Michelle Williams (Wonderstruck) and Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Night Of) will also appear in director Ruben Fleischer’s Venom.
Despite Sony and Marvel striking an agreement for Spider-Man to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that Venom will exist outside of that continuity. When asked whether the movie will be canon for the MCU, Feige said, “No, I think they’re focusing on making a great Venom movie, and I don’t know much about it, but I know they’re off to a good start with Tom Hardy.”
Written by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, Venom is expected to begin filming in late October before swinging into theaters October 5, 2018.
