The brand-new Venom trailer debuted with the first good look at the other symbiote/human hybrids that Venom will have to fight against in the film and while we already knew that Riz Ahmed's character was likely going to be the symbiote hybrid known as Riot, this was the first time that we saw a female symbiote hybrid.

We knew that Michelle Lee was going to be play "Donna Diego" in the film, but up until this trailer, we did not know that she would also merge with a symbiote. Since the rest of the movie seems to be following the path of the original Venom miniseries, 1993's Venom: Lethal Protector (by David Michelinie, Mark Bagley, Ron Lim, Sam De La rosa and Al Milgrm), it appears as though this is confirmation that Scream will be in the film. In Lethal Protector, the Life Foundation forced Venom to "spawn" out five more symbiotes that the Foundation then bonded with humans to form five more symbiote hybrids. The first and most famous of these new hybrids was Scream.

Who Is Scream?

Scream was introduced in Venom: Lethal Protector #4 (by Michelinie, Lim, De La Rosa and Milgrom) and she fought against Spider-Man.

The fascinating thing about Scream, as well as all of the other symbiote hybrids, is that she was never actually named in the series. In fact, she went almost twenty years before getting an actual name in the comics. She first gained the name "Scream" when she was turned into an action figure as part of ToyBiz's ultra popular line of action figures during the 1990s.

Lethal Protector doesn't tell us anything really besides that she is a woman.

The first glimpse into the psyche of Scream is when she shows up alive (after seemingly being killed by Venom along with all of the other new hybrids in Lethal Protector #5) in a two-parter in Spider-Man #52 and Web of Spider-Man #119 during the middle of the Clone Saga.

Here, we learn that Scream has been struggling with the problem of the literal voice in her head messing her mind and her psyche can not hold up to the struggle and has gone insane. She tries to turn to Venom for help and finds herself embroiled in a conflict with the newly introduced Scarlet Spider, who was Peter Parker's clone, Ben Reilly, adopting a superhero identity to fight against Venom.

This leads directly into the follow-up series, Venom: Separation Anxiety (by Howard Mackie, Ron Randall and Sam De La Rosa), where Scream takes on her biggest role, even if it is a tragic one.

This series gives us Scream's real name for the first time, as we discover that her name is Donna. She and the other symbiote hybrids have broken free from the Life Foundation and they want to see if they can force Venom into helping them deal with their problems adjusting to their new existence, which she explains to Venom in the first issue...

We see her debating their plight with her fellow hybrids. They just use their real names, as, again, their codenames were not revealed for years inside the comic books.

However, Donna's mental problems lead to her deciding that these symbiote hybrids are evil, and she begins killing her own friends, starting with Agony (also not named in the comics for years - well after she died in the comics)...

After killing off two more of the hybrids, we discover that Donna actually was insane even before the symbiote bonded with her!

She recovered from her mental instability, and grew to come to terms with her bonding and became an ally of other symbiote hybrids out there. She helped Venom fight off the Xenophage, an alien who hunted down and ate symbiotes.

However, tragically, when Eddie Brock snapped and began killing off every symbiote hybrid around, she was one of his first victims in Venom #15 (by Rick Remender, Lan Medina and Nelson DeCastro)...

Still, it seems like symbiotes are hard to kill, so maybe Scream will show up again, especially now that she will be in the Venom movie!

Arriving Oct. 5, director Ruben Fleischer’s Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Scott Haze, Reid Scott and Riz Ahmed.
