As the crossover event King in Black escalated, Knull, the dark god of symbiotes, attempted to conquer the Marvel Universe with his symbiote army. However, Eddie Brock inherited the powers of Captain Universe to vanquish the darkly divine supervillain. And by defeating Knull, Eddie ascended to omnipotence as he became the new god of symbiotes and took on a cosmic role.

And as Eddie continues his divine mission and settles into his new role in Venom #200, the level of cosmic awareness that he now possesses is on par with Watchmen's Doctor Manhattan, particularly in regards to his new dynamic with space and, potentially, time.

As the Marvel Universe picks up the pieces from Knull's rampage, Eddie is now in command of the symbiotes' collective hive mind, simultaneously connected to all of the Klyntar symbiotes across the cosmos. Commanding the symbiotes as a spacefaring, peacekeeping force, Eddie reaffirms his alliance with the Avengers as well as work alongside forces like the Guardians of the Galaxy to use the symbiote army as a force for good. And Eddie is able to issue multiple commands simultaneously, all while catching up with Spider-Man over lunch, pausing only when he has to apply a particular amount of focus to a group of symbiotes.

Eddie reveals that this cosmic awareness isn't limited to current events involving symbiotes. He can tap into anything the symbiote army has ever experienced in the past as well. Eddie is able to view the genetic memories of his symbiotes and can also use this ability to transport himself into his own memories and notice details that may have eluded him in the moment or that he had since forgotten. The only figure that remains elusive to Eddie is Knull's mind, with the defeated supervillain still shrouded in mystery. And with the symbiotes existing in the Marvel Universe since the dawn of time, Eddie is now connected to eons of history. And as he says, he thinks that, with practice, he may be able to actually travel through time to influence the way events played out.

Venom Eddie Brock Understands Past

In Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' classic Watchmen, Doctor Manhattan gained his own omnipotence after being trapped in an atomic test chamber. After reassembling his corporeal form, Manhattan could separate himself in multiple bodies and experience each of their perspectives simultaneously, making himself everywhere all at once and able to teleport himself anywhere on a moment's notice. Most interestingly, Manhattan could observe past, present and future all at once, aware of how events would unfold which gradually disconnected him from his sense of humanity because of this unique perspective.

Eddie Brock went from an unscrupulous investigative journalist to one of Spider-Man's greatest supervillains before finding a sense of redemption and becoming a superhero in his own right. After embracing his role as a father made him more human than ever, Eddie is now a literal god, who can command an entire army of symbiotes and see the whole universe through their eyes. Because of his access to their memories, Eddie can relive and see the complete history of symbiotes through their collective memory, and he now possesses far-reaching insight into the Marvel Universe that rivals cosmically aware figures like Uatu. While his care for his son Dylan will likely keep him tethered to his base humanity, Eddie Brock now has the chance to protect the innocent on a universal scale.
