As King in Black came to its epic conclusion, Eddie Brock inherited the powers of Captain Universe for his final battle against Knull, the dark god of symbiotes, for the fate of the Marvel Universe. Emerging triumphant from the cataclysmic confrontation, Eddie became the new god of symbiotes, leaving the mantle of Venom behind as his mission became wholly cosmic.

And as the Marvel Universe begins to pick up the pieces from King in Black and Eddie settles into his new status quo in Venom #35, a new Venom has been crowned: Eddie's son, Dylan Brock.

Venom Symbiote Dylan Brock

Despite his relatively young age, Dylan displayed a greater mastery over symbiotes than his father, able to command and dissipate them with his mind. Dylan's immense, inherent abilities were what drew Knull to Earth in the first place, and the symbiote god tried to track down the boy to ensure he would not usurp his position as god of the symbiotes. Dylan proved crucial in the battle against Knull's army, even going as far as the hurt the evil god before Eddie saved the day. After ascending to godhood following Knull's defeat, Eddie removed Dylan's powers to keep him safe, but the teen can't help but continue to fight against injustice.

Back at school, Dylan gets in fights constantly and fights against those bigger and stronger than him who prey on people in New York City back alleys. As Dylan runs the risk of being overpowered by the classic Spider-Man supervillain Jack-O'Lantern, Dylan is shot in the resulting confusion before he bonds with the nearby Venom symbiote to heal his wounds and finish the fight. And as Dylan returns home to his father, Eddie decides to play a superhero mentor role to his son, letting him pilot the Venom symbiote for himself and continue to defend the city.

Eddie Brock Dylan Venom

As Dylan settles into his new superhero role, Eddie helps instruct his son on the symbiotic nature that forms Venom and compliments him on his appearance as the symbiote-bonded superhero, with Dylan's appearance as Venom taller and bulkier than Eddie's usual appearance when he was the bonded to the symbiote. Dylan doesn't appear to be as physically dependent on the symbiote as his father. He appears to be able to enter and exit it at will, almost making it a sort of super-suit, though this feature may change as Dylan and the symbiote begin to work more often as a team and build up their connection together.

While Dylan might not have his command over symbiotes, he has a much more personal connection to a single symbiote tied directly to his father's own superhero legacy. Just as Spider-Man once balanced life as a high schooler and juvenile superhero, Dylan has a similar dynamic himself while Eddie watches over his son and ensures he doesn't make the same mistakes that he did as Venom, as the father-son duo work together to keep their city safe. Dylan may have thought his stint as a superhero was over by the end of King in Black but, in truth, it's only just beginning.
