WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Venom #29 by Donny Cates, Luke Ross, Jesus Aburtov and VC's Clayton Cowles, available now.

In "Venom Beyond," Eddie Brock and his son Dylan were transported to a futuristic alternate universe where the Earth was dominated by symbiotes. This world was policed by the Venomized Avengers, and they all answered to their leader, a mysterious character named Codex. Venom #28 delivered a shocking twist when it was revealed that this Codex was actually this parallel universe's version of Dylan Brock, who was now all grown-up and ruling over the world with an iron fist.

And in Venom #29, this world's version of Eddie's wife, Anne Weying, tells the story of how her home fell under Codex's tyrannical rule. As she reveals the futuristic villain's origin, it becomes clear that Codex and the real Dylan are a lot alike. And through this origin, we learn just how powerful Eddie's son really is.

Venom Dylan Brock Power

The future that Eddie and Dylan first found themselves in Venom #26 is one populated by an incredibly large number of symbiotes, but it wasn't always this way. As Anne describes it, it wasn't unlike the Earth of the regular Marvel Universe: villains robbed banks and superheroes stopped them. But all of that changed when she got pregnant much in the same way the real Anne Weying did on Earth-616: through the Venom symbiote.

After giving birth to Dylan, she eventually found out that he had abilities, and a mysterious connection to symbiotes and the symbiotes dark god, Knull. When he was roughly the age of the real Dylan, this alternate version of the boy took a piece of his mother's symbiote and used it to create thousands more. While he started by wearing these symbiotes, he eventually proved to have control over them even when he wasn't bonded with them.

This Dylan now had control of thousands of symbiotes all over the world, and he developed his very own hive-mind. This is what allowed him to take over the world, and grow up to become the one they call Codex.

Dylan Brock Codex Venom

While this is just an alternate universe version of Dylan, we've already seen the boy develop some of these abilities back in the main Marvel Universe. In fact, we already know that Dylan is able to control other symbiotes, whether in proximity to himself or from far away. He did it with the Sleeper symbiote, as well as with Venom. He's still learning, and his abilities are still developing, which means we don't yet know the full scope of his powers.

But Venom #29 essentially shows what Dylan, at full capacity, is capable of: he can spawn hundreds, if not thousands more symbiotes, and he could potentially control all of them.

This means that Dylan is a lot more similar to Knull than we initially believed. For a while now, it's been clear that there has been a certain connection between the two characters. But now we know that they are basically two sides of the same coin. If given the opportunity, Dylan could grow as powerful as the dark god of the symbiotes, he could even challenge him.

Soon, Knull will arrive with his symbiote army and attack the Earth in the upcoming King in Black event. All of the heroes of the Marvel Universe will become involved in this full-scale invasion, but Dylan may very well be the only one who can actually stop Knull.
