WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Venom #28 by Donny Cates, Juan Gedeon, Jesus Aburtov and Clayton Cowles, available now.

While trying to find answers as to the extent of his son's ability to psychically manipulate symbiotes, Eddie Brock, the current and longtime wielder of the Venom symbiote, has traveled to an entirely different Earth, and what he finds there is heartbreaking.

After being ambushed by the mechanized villain Virus, Eddie Brock, his son Dylan, and The Maker are thrown through an interdimensional gate built by the alternate version of Reed Richards. While the current location (and potentially time) of The Maker is unknown, Eddie and Dylan have found themselves in a dark and twisted version of New York City. When Virus caught up to the two, they were saved by symbiotic and incredibly violent versions of the Avengers.

To get himself and Dylan to safety, Eddie led them into the sewers as Venom. Eddie very quickly realized the two were not alone, however, as he and Dylan quickly come across a ragtag team of symbiotic freedom fighters, led by none other than Eddie's long-deceased ex-wife and former host of the Venom symbiote, Anne Weying.

And in Venom #28, Anne reveals how she came to wield the Venom symbiote.

The Anne Weying that Eddie Brock knew and loved has been gone for quite some time on his world, but their history ran deep, long before Michelle Williams portrayed her in 2018's Venom. The two shared a loving marriage until Eddie was fired in disgrace from his journalism job at the Daily Bugle, after unknowingly interviewing a serial liar who told Eddie he was the Sin-Eater. When Spider-Man captured the real Sin-Eater, Eddie was left unemployed, broken and enraged. After their marriage ended, Anne came back into Eddie's life when she helped to talk him down during one of his attacks against Spider-Man as Venom. When she was later shot by Sin Eater, Anne bonded with the Venom symbiote herself in order to survive and became She-Venom.

However, things turned out differently in the world of "Venom Beyond" though, as Anne explains to Venom that her world's Eddie took his own life. While the appearance of the Venom symbiote in the primary Marvel Universe interrupted his suicide attempt, the Eddie from this Earth showed up earlier before the symbiote was looking for a new host. However, that symbiote ultimately found a new host in a grief-stricken Anne, who felt her anger and reached out to her. Since then, this Anne Weying has been in possession of the Venom symbiote, using her powers to train others in the use of their symbiotes.

Now that the war on this world is over, this small fighting force are all that remains of the fight against Codex. Along with alternate versions of Peter Parker, Cletus Kasady, Wade Wilson and Scream, they do everything they can to stave off Codex and his army of symbiotic Avenger clones.

While both versions of Anne may share an affinity for Eddie and a desire to do the right thing, the way that their timelines diverged has left the current Anne far from the one Eddie spent so much time with. On multiple occasions, the main Marvel Universe Anne became disgusted with Eddie's dependence on the Venom symbiote. Eventually, she was so left shaken by Eddie's transformation and desire to kill Spider-Man that it drove her to end her own life by jumping from the roof of her high rise apartment building. However, the Anne being presented in this world is one who charges headfirst into the fray, leading her team with unquestionable skill. Having turned her personal demons into the driving force behind her quest to end Codex's reign of terror, she's taken to the Venom symbiote in a way that no other version of the character ever has.

And now, Eddie's Venom and Anne's Venom will have to work together, in a partnership that neither likely thought was possible, to bring down Codex and the newly rejuvenated Scorpion.
