Sony has announced Venom will be one of their first IMAX Enhanced home release films.

First announced last year, Sony will partner up with a number of streaming services around the world, including FandangoNow, Tencent Video and Rakuten TV. The program will see a number of films released and "enhanced" with digitally remastered video and improved audio, courtesy of tech from Xperi subsidiary DTS. The deal also extends to Paramount, who will provide content for the upgraded service, although what films will receive the upgrade have not been formally been announced.

Deadline has reported that one of the first movies to make the transition will be VenomVenom managed to earn over $850 million at the global box office, ensuring that one of the first films in the partnership was a global smash. The other film receiving this treatment will be Alpha, which follows a young man in ancient times who helped domesticate the wolf.

According to IMAX CFO Patrick McClymont, "We’re encouraged by the significant momentum and high-caliber partners that are embracing the IMAX Enhanced program in just the first few months of its launch."

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom Stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Woody Harrelson, Sope Aluko, Scott Deckert, Marcella Bragio and Michelle Lee. The film is currently available on digital HD and Blu-ray.
