WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home, now playing in theaters.

Venom 3 may see the Lethal Protector take on Spider-Man outside of his own universe.

According to industry scooper Daniel Richtman, Venom 3 will "explore the multiverse" as well as show "Venom finally meeting and fighting Spider-Man." Part of the genesis for this theory was the end-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw a dimensionally displaced Eddie Brock trying to understand the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The scene ends with Eddie and Venom being sent back to their own universe (and leaving behind a scrap of the symbiote). The individual sharing Richtman's report went on to speculate that Andrew Garfield will be the one in the Spider-Man suit.

The theory that the Venom movies (and their upcoming companion film, Morbius) take place in the same continuity as the Amazing Spider-Man films has been floated recently since Sony owns the rights to all of these properties that share a darker, more serious tone than the relatively light-hearted and comedic MCU. Additional rumors suggest Garfield isn't quite finished following his return in No Way Home.

Producer Amy Pascal recently confirmed that a third Venom movie was in the works at Sony, but details are scarce. Andy Serkis, who directed Venom: Let There Be Carnage, has expressed interest in returning to wrap up the trilogy, stating, "I have a few ideas of my own, but I certainly wouldn't be bold enough to put them out there right now." He added that a confrontation with Spider-Man was something of an inevitability. "It's going to happen, the question is when," he said. "We don't want to rush it."

In addition to Morbius and Venom 3, Sony is hard at work on another Spider-Man project, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The sequel to 2018's Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse will see Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, Miguel O'Hara and "a new team of Spider-People" explore the multiverse and "face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered." Across will also be split into two movies made simultaneously, with Part One expected to hit theaters on Oct. 7, 2022, and Part Two releasing sometime in 2023.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently playing in theaters. Venom: Let There Be Carnage is now available to stream and on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra-HD.
